CHANGE OF ADDRESS, TELEPHONE NUMBER, ETC.
Many students have changes made to their initial registration form during the year address, telephone numbers, parental employment locations, telephone number, and so on. Any change or possible transfer to another location should be reported to the classroom teacher and/or office as soon as they occur, in order that our records are up to date.
TRANSFERS OUT
As soon as you know that you are going to move out of Princeton and go to another school, please ensure you contact your child's homeroom teacher as well as the office. On the last day of attendance, return all school property, such as musical instruments, borrowed books, texts, references, library books, text references, etc.
Be sure you pay all debts, which you owe the school, for such things as lost texts, library fines, bus fees or lunch fees.
PERSONAL PROPERTY OF STUDENTS/ LOST & FOUND
School personnel cannot accept responsibility for the personal property of students. Please label all outerwear, footwear and school supplies, with your child's name. You may use an indelible felt pen.
- The lost and found boxes are located in the East and West Halls. Found articles of clothing and footwear should be placed in this box. (Please check often as the lost & found boxes are emptied at regular times to ensure hygiene and clean school hallways.)
- Texts, notebooks and binders are usually turned into the office.
- Watches, rings, keys, glasses, and jewellery are requested to be turned into the office as well.
Instructional Materials/Library Books
Students are provided with textbooks in some of the subject areas and, take home and library books. Undue damage or loss of books (library and text) will be charged to the student on a depreciated basis.
Cold Weather Policy
Ensure children are appropriately dressed for the weather so that they will be comfortable when they are outside. This includes hats, scarves, mitts, boots, etc.
At the discretion of the principal in the event of very cold weather ( 23° C or colder) or rain, recess will be changed from outdoors to indoors. Many times these cold weather decisions will have to be based on "common sense" rather than on absolute temperature, e.g. wind chill factors.
During cold or rainy weather children will be allowed into the school upon arrival and will be expected to sit quietly in the hallways. Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes prior to the first bell (A.M. - 8:30, P.M. - 12:20) as supervision does not begin until this time.
Indoor Shoe Policy
Suitable footwear should be worn relative to weather conditions. All students are asked to have one pair of running shoes at school at all times. These are necessary for the Physical Education program and provide indoor footwear when students remove their outside shoes or boots.
Playground Boundaries
The parking lot, bicycle racks, and front of the school are 'OUT OF BOUNDS' at recess time. We continue to ask parents not to drop off or pick up their children in the staff parking lot. The school parking lot is reserved for staff, buses, and for delivery vehicles. While we always strive to make the areas around the school safe, parents need to be aware that they share in this responsibility. Please choose "Safety over Convenience".
Leaving The School
Under no circumstances is a student to leave the school during class time without first obtaining permission from the general office. A student who has a note from home giving him/her permission to leave the school will first show it to the teacher and then present it to the general office for permission to leave. Since we are responsible for the students, it is imperative that we know which students are in the building at any time. There is a sign out book that we request students and parents to use when leaving school early.
Bus Students
It has largely become a necessary routine for many children to take the bus to and from school. Princeton School and staff expect students to be on the bus each day, particularly to go home unless a parent has arrived at the office to sign their child out before the end of the day. Children making a verbal request (with or without parental permission) will not be allowed to stay at school. Students without a signed parent note or a parent arriving before the end of the day will not be permitted to remain at school; they will need to take the bus home. It is problematic for supervisors and bus drivers to determine whether or not a child can stay without a formal signed note presented to the teacher and driver so everyone is aware and certain of what is happening. This communication is very important as not to alarm caregivers or parents. We would ask parents wishing to take their children home arrive early as to not cause confusion on the school bus or outside. Students that request their child wait at school must arrive to pick them up by 3:19. Students are asked to wait inside the school.
Phone Calls
As with all schools, instructional time at Princeton School is very important. In respecting this as well as the teacher's need to minimize interruptions, we would ask that parents not call the school asking to speak to their children during class time. We will always attempt to give messages or have students call during a suitable time but again; we would like to minimize interruptions to the classroom setting which benefits all students.
Parent Involvement
Parents are a very important part of our school success. We would like to encourage you to be involved in your child's education. These are a few of the formal and informal ways you may consider:
