Illness/Injury Procedures

If a student becomes sick or is seriously injured while at school the following procedures will be followed:

  • A member of the staff will attempt to make contact with the parent/guardian listed for emergencies. Only after contact and approval, will a child be sent home.
  • If the parent/guardian cannot be reached, the child will be made as comfortable as possible in the medical room. If the illness/injury appears serious, the family doctor will be contacted and his advice will be followed.
  • Alternately the child will be taken to emergency at the hospital (by ambulance if necessary) or Health Clinic. School personnel will accompany the child. Attempts to contact parents/guardians will continue.
  • We will attempt to contact parents/guardians for all neck, head or back injuries.

Medication

Parents are encouraged to dispense any necessary medication at home if at all possible. If medication must be taken during school hours, please contact the school to make arrangements for administration. Any medication should be provided in appropriate containers that are properly labelled with the name of the child, the name of the medication, and instructions for administering the medication to the student. An Administration of Medication form must be completed and signed if administered at school at all times.

Emergency Plans

Every Edmonton Public School must have a plan for the operation of the school should an emergency arise. In the case that the school should need to be evacuated (e.g. gas leak, power failure, etc.) we will temporarily be located at Balwin Community Hall at 12904 - 74 Street. If we should ever leave the building, signage will be up on doors indicating an evacuation has occurred. If parents need to be contacted, a phone fan-out will be used or a letter will be sent home. The home phone numbers of Princeton families will be given to the phoning committee for use in emergency situations. This is another important reason to keep your demographic information up to date and current at the school.

Capital Health Authority

Our school nurse will be at Princeton School at usually once a month and may also be reached at North Central Public Health Centre at 780.413.5600. Her name is Jenna Pepper.
